Frequently asked questions
The questions we are actually asked, answered properly. If yours is not here, ask us — we will add it.
How far in advance should I book a move?
For a local move, one to two weeks is comfortable. For an intercity move, two to three weeks gives time to survey, confirm a vehicle and schedule a crew. We do take shorter-notice work when a vehicle is free, so it is always worth asking — but the last few days of the month book out first.
How is the cost of a move calculated?
Four things drive it: how much there is to move, how far it is going, how much packing you want us to do, and how hard the access is at each end — floor, lift and how far the vehicle can park from the door. We survey first and quote in writing with those parts itemised, so you can see which one is costing you money.
Do you pack everything, or should I pack some of it myself?
Either works. The most common arrangement is that we pack the kitchen, glassware and electronics, and you handle clothes, books and linen yourself. That brings both the material and the labour cost down without putting the breakable things at risk. Tell us which rooms you want to do and we will scope around it.
What happens if something is damaged during the move?
Raise it with your coordinator at delivery, while the crew is still on site, and note it on the delivery sheet. That is what makes a claim straightforward later. The cover itself depends on the transit-insurance option you choose, which we confirm in writing with your quote before the move — ask for that detail rather than assuming goods are automatically insured, with us or with anyone.
Can you move my car or bike as well?
Yes. Vehicles travel in a covered carrier rather than being driven, so no distance is added to the odometer. We need the registration papers and the tank at roughly a quarter full. It can run on the same booking as your household goods, and the vehicle's condition is photographed at both ends.
What if my new home is not ready on the delivery date?
Tell us as early as you can and we will hold the consignment in storage and deliver when you are ready. Storage is charged separately from the move, by duration, and we confirm that rate before anything goes into the facility. Arranging it in advance always costs less than arranging it on the day.
My building has no lift and narrow stairs. Is that a problem?
Not if we know in advance. What causes delays and extra cost is finding out on the day. During the survey we check the floor, the lift size, the stair width and how far the vehicle can park from the door, then plan the crew size and equipment around it. A fourth floor without a lift needs more people, not more hours.
Do you work on Sundays and public holidays?
Yes. For office relocations a weekend is usually the better choice, because it gives two clear days to move and reconnect everything before staff return. Weekend slots fill earlier, so book ahead.
Can you move plants, pets, or a gas cylinder?
Plants travel badly in a sealed vehicle over long distances and we will say so rather than take the money; for a local move they are usually fine. Pets should travel with you, not in the goods vehicle. Gas cylinders cannot be carried loaded — have the cylinder emptied and the connection removed by the supplier before the day.
Do I need to be there on the day?
Someone should be, at both ends, to sign the inventory and to say where things go. It does not have to be you — but it should be somebody who can make decisions, because "leave it, they will know" is how boxes end up in the wrong room.
How much notice do you need to cancel or reschedule?
Tell us as soon as you know. A date moved with several days' notice is usually straightforward. Cancellation terms, including any charge once a vehicle and crew have been committed, are set out with your written quote — read that section before you accept, with us or with any mover.
Will one vehicle be enough for my things?
That is exactly what the survey settles. Under-sizing the vehicle is the classic way a cheap quote becomes an expensive day, because a second trip is charged on top. We size the vehicle against the inventory and tell you which one we are sending.
